Energy Exchange FAQs

The Con Edison Energy Exchange Program gives select customers the opportunity to electrify their gas appliances for little to no out-of-pocket cost in exchange for disconnecting their gas service.
Incentives can go toward the electrification of any existing natural gas non-space heating appliances. Typically, these are, but not limited to, gas stoves, dryers, and water heaters. Additionally, incentives can be allocated to cover the costs associated with upgrading an electrical panel (wiring, outlets, etc.) and gas equipment/piping removal.
We manage an eligibility list of customers connected to gas service lines that will be replaced in the coming years. When you complete an interest form, we will be notified to confirm eligibility. If you are eligible for the program, then we will provide a list of eligible participating contractors for you to contact.
The cost of this project can be free after receiving the incentives! If you choose a higher-end appliance, project costs can be higher than the average electrification project. Any difference between our incentives and the final project cost should be paid directly to the participating contractor.
Any one of the approved participating contractors can guide the customer through the Energy Exchange process from start to finish. Once we confirm your eligibility, we'll email you a list of approved participating contractors.
Please let your participating contractor know about your interest in customizing your upgrades and they will work with you to coordinate cost-share responsibilities.
In order to receive incentives, your home must fully disconnect from the gas system. If you use natural gas or oil for space heating, you can also participate in our Clean Heat Program.
No. Your new electric stove does not need to be an induction stove, but it must be ENERGY STAR rated. We encourage customers to opt for an induction stove as they are safer and more efficient.
There is a 15-year recourse period in which you may be financially liable for the investment that we made to the property as a result of participating in the Energy Exchange program.
The electric appliances that are eligible for this program must be ENERGY STAR rated. Meaning that overall, the appliance will use less energy, making your home more efficient. While your electric bill will increase, participation in the program will lead to the closure of your gas account and elimination of your gas bill.
