Mount Vernon Thermal Energy Network

We’re exploring the creation of a thermal energy network (TEN) in Mount Vernon to provide residents with cleaner heating and cooling technology—and reduce carbon emissions more efficiently in the area.

Project Overview

If the New York State Public Service Commission approves the design proposal, Con Edison will construct a TEN and provide all new heating and cooling equipment at no cost to participating customers. Participating residential customers will also receive free energy efficiency and electric upgrades, as needed.

The thermal energy network will operate for a minimum of five years. During that time, Con Edison plans to cap customer energy bills so that their energy costs are not greater than what they would have been using the customer’s existing heating and cooling equipment.

Potential benefits of the TEN, include:

  • Providing up to 76 buildings with clean energy technology—including residential homes, a community center, buildings of worship, a health center, a fire station, and other small businesses
  • Reducing lifetime emissions of carbon dioxide by 133,000 metric tons, which is equivalent to taking 1,700 vehicles off the road
  • Reducing the impact, by an estimated 45%, of the electrified heating and cooling of the energy grid—when compared to using standard air-source heat pumps
  • Eliminating 500 feet of gas-distribution pipe

How to Join the TEN

If you received a flyer or letter about the Mount Vernon thermal energy network, you may be eligible to participate in the project. To design the TEN and determine your building’s eligibility, we will need access to your property to conduct a walkthrough.

We can visit between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call 1-914-460-5301 to schedule a convenient day and time.

Once onsite, we will assess your heating and cooling equipment. As part of this assessment, you’ll receive:

  • Access to knowledgeable engineering professionals
  • A free kit of energy-efficient products
  • A summary report (following the visit)
  • A $50 gift card, if you meet our eligibility requirements.
