Westchester County's Jane Solnick Wins Con Edison's Highest Honor
Jane Solnick, the “face of Con Edison” in Westchester County, has won Con Edison’s Living Our Values (LOV) award, the company’s highest honor.
Solnick, the director of Regional and Community Affairs for Westchester, is a self-described people-person. She advocates for Con Edison as tenaciously as she does for the people of the county.
“Jane is an amazing communicator with a deep understanding of Westchester County,” said Kyle Kimball, vice president, Government Regional and Community Affairs. “She challenges herself and her team to make continuous improvements that streamline communication channels, strengthen relationships and promote thoughtful and productive conversations.”
For 15 years, Solnick has helped Westchester through major weather events from the flooding caused by Hurricane Ida in 2021, to the devastation of back-to-back nor’easters Riley and Quinn in 2018, and Superstorm Sandy in 2012. Her company cell number is on the speed dial of most elected officials in the county, and many have her private cell number too.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: "It brings me great pleasure to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Jane Solnick, a distinguished Con Edison executive who has been awarded with the company’s highest honor. Jane has always shown professionalism and we applaud her dedication to the community."
"Jane Solnick is eminently deserving of the Living Our Values award,” said New York State Sen. Shelley Mayer. “I have worked with her for more than a decade, through our communities' worst storms, flooding, and power outages. Jane is available and responsive and does everything in her power to solve the problems when she is presented with them. Equally important, Jane works collaboratively and is always receptive to improving Con Edison's practices and the experience for the ratepayers. Our community is fortunate to have Jane advocating for them."
I believe that we’re all in this together,” Solnick said. “That’s why it’s so important to help when you can. When you roll up your sleeves and work with someone you really get to know them and build trust and confidence in one another. Trust is key to developing the kinds of relationships needed to get through trying circumstances.”
On blue sky days, Solnick is out and about building and fortifying relationships with the diverse network of elected officials from Westchester’s 39 municipalities in its service territory, the county government and its business and nonprofit leaders. Solnick serves on the board of directors for agencies including the Westchester Parks Foundation, the Westchester County Association, the Business Council of Westchester and the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber Foundation.
Solnick helps build and maintain Con Edison’s support for over 50 Westchester nonprofit organizations. One of the favorite parts of her job includes representing Con Edison at events. She attends around 30 events each year, many are outside of business hours.
“One of my favorite events each year is the Westchester Parks Foundation’s Bike Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway,” recounted Solnick, vice chair of the foundation. “This event became more popular than ever during the pandemic because it provides a safe space for families to enjoy the outdoors together.”
“I am very proud to represent Con Edison. Our commitment to the environment and the communities we serve makes a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
Solnick credits her four-person team for her success. “I have a great team. We work really hard and sometimes under a great deal of stress,” Solnick continued. “So having a sense of humor helps relieve the stress. It’s amazing that we can always find a way to share a few laughs at the end of the day.”
Solnick was born and raised in Westchester County. She received a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from St. Bonaventure and a master’s in Business Administration from Long Island University. She lives in White Plains and is the proud mother of three sons, grandmother of two and mother-in-law to one.
