Con Edison Thanks Crews and Customers for Emergency Response

Energy Conservation Played Key Role During Extreme Weather

Con Edison crews continue repairing equipment and restoring power for customers who were affected by the four-day heat wave.

Crews have worked non-stop and often in extreme heat conditions, returning power to customers who experienced outages over the course of the heat wave. About 1,000 customers remained out of service this afternoon.

“Our workers and customers are our greatest assets and that was particularly true during this heat emergency,” said Patrick McHugh, senior vice president, Electric Operations. “Our crews worked through exhausting, arduous conditions to safely get customers back in service and our customers heeded calls for conservation to help keep service reliable.”

Hot weather places stress on electrical equipment, with cables warming up due to the elevated ambient air temperatures and the large amount of electricity flowing through them to power air conditioners.

Electric demand peaked at 12,065 megawatts on Wednesday afternoon, exceeding last year’s peak of 11,740 megawatts.
