Con Edison Focuses on Westchester Customers; Restoration to Be Completed Tonight

Customers Reminded to Stay Clear of Power Lines

Con Edison crews have restored power to almost 25,000 of the 26,000 customers in Westchester affected by yesterday’s severe storms.

Crews from across the Con Edison service territory supplemented by 90 additional contractors will continue working into the night to repair damage to Westchester’s overhead infrastructure and restore power to the approximately 950 customers still experiencing outages as of 5:30 p.m. today.

The vast majority of customers who lost service during the storm will be restored by 11 p.m. Repairs that will restore power to small numbers of customers – sometimes even just a single customer – may take longer.

Working with local public works personnel, Con Edison crews cleared more than 70 roads closed by fallen trees and branches. That work includes de-energizing and removing the wires that are entangled in the trees so the trees can be cleared safely.

Customers located in Cortlandt, Ossining, New Castle and Yorktown were among the Westchester communities most impacted by the storm.

To help those customers impacted by yesterday’s storm, Con Edison set up a drive-thru dry ice distribution center at the Cortlandt Town Center in Mohegan Lake.

Following safety guidelines issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, State, City and County guidelines for COVID-19, residents were asked to remain in their vehicles and follow the instructions of Con Edison personnel at the site to maintain social distancing.

We continue to ask the public to maintain social distancing with crews responding to outages so they can focus on restoring safe, reliable service while protecting themselves, their families, and other customers.

The company reminds customers to stay away from downed wires because they may be live.
