Con Edison Researcher From Highland Falls, N.Y. Wins Another Award for Work on Cyber Security
A resident of Highland Falls, N.Y. has won a second prestigious award in three years for his work on cyber security.
William Vesely, a project specialist in Central Engineering, was named a winner of the Technology Transfer Award from the Electric Power Research Institute.
He earned the honor for applying security protections that were designed for specific Con Edison equipment and systems. This will improve security in the design of Con Edison’s critical infrastructure. In the past, utility security methods were not specific to industrial control systems and operational technology.
Vesely, who has worked for Con Edison since February 2014, also won a Technology Transfer Award in 2018. That one was for helping to develop a system energy companies can use to evaluate their substation cyber protections.
In all, 24 Con Edison employees won Technology Transfer Awards this year. (A list of all the 2020 winners and their titles is below.)
