Smart Energy Plan – Participation: Frequently Asked Questions

Customers who have had a smart meter installed for at least one year are eligible to participate in the Smart Energy Plan. Get more information about smart meters.
Once you enroll, no additional action is required. However, you can benefit and save money by using energy wisely. You could make changes like staggering energy use (especially during peak hours) so large electric appliances (such as your dishwasher or clothes washer) run one at a time rather than all at once, or by shifting your energy use of large appliances to off-peak hours (for example, you could set your dishwasher to run before or after peak hours).
Yes! You pay ESCOs for your supply charges and Con Edison for your delivery charges. The Smart Energy Plan only impacts your delivery charges, so switching to an ESCO does not affect your ability to participate.
No, you cannot participate in this plan. Instead, you are eligible for our Net Energy Metering billing plan, which uses the energy your solar system produces to reduce your energy bill and provides bill credits when your solar system generates more energy than you use.
