Manhattan School of Music and Con Edison Team Up for an Energy Efficiency Duet

Manhattan School of Music (MSM) is lighting the way for the next generation of musicians, reducing the school’s carbon footprint, and complying with Local Law 97 with the help of Con Edison’s Commercial and Industrial Program, and Instant Lighting Incentive.

Through these and other programs, the school has improved lighting and HVAC controls that reduces its annual energy bill by more than $140,000 and its CO2 emissions by 496 metric tons. That’s the equivalent emissions of one year of electricity for 96 homes.

"The program makes it more affordable for building owners to increase their energy efficiency,” said Bryan Greaney, MSM’s Associate Vice President of Facilities & Campus Safety. "Our partnership with Con Edison has allowed us to make substantial progress toward our environmental goals while simultaneously improving the comfort and quality of life for everyone on our campus."

Con Edison, a key partner in realizing the state’s clean energy mandates, helps customers identify energy efficiency programs that offer them the best, most affordable way to reduce their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and comply with the goals of New York City’s Local Law 97.

Manhattan School of Music has long been recognized for its dedication to musical excellence, and environmental responsibility is an important initiative as part of its strategic plan. By taking advantage of Con Edison's Energy Efficiency programs, MSM has taken a substantial step towards aligning its campus operations with these values.

Key improvements include installing LED lighting throughout its student residence hall, occupancy sensors and controls throughout the building, and HVAC controls upgrades to reduce heating and cooling costs. The school is currently upgrading its boiler controls and installing a new high-efficiency domestic hot water plant.
