Systems Manager From Bridgewater, N.J. Wins Con Edison's Highest Honor
A Con Edison Information Technology systems manager from Bridgewater, N.J. has won the company’s highest honor for her integrity, her commitment to safety, and operational excellence.
Kavitha Subbiah is a winner of the Living Our Values Award, which is for high-achieving employees who demonstrate stellar character on and off the job.
“I dedicate this award to my team,” Subbiah said. “I have a very supportive team and without them I couldn’t have achieved this award. I share this great honor with my team and co-workers.”
“Kavitha is always on a mission striving to learn, help her customers, improve the business process, and perform activities in a way that highlights quality of service,” said Jeannine Haggerty, Con Edison’s vice president of Information Technology Business Systems Delivery. “Kavitha’s leadership on issues pertaining to gas leaks and her tireless efforts with the gas team to implement improvements has increased safety for our employees, our customers, and the general public.”
Making the work environment safer is always on Kavitha's mind, so she did not hesitate when she was asked to enhance gas inspection mobile applications. Her work helped streamline inspections and prevent gas leaks.
Subbiah found ways to improve the leak progression process and worked to put those improvements in place. She led a compliance-related change to add piping checks to screens that gas operations personnel use. This change helps Con Edison report illegal piping activity to the New York City Department of Buildings.
Subbiah’s safety motto is: “Everyone must return home safely each day.” She begins every meeting with a safety message. Throughout the pandemic she has reinforced the importance of social distancing, masks and hand washing.
Subbiah promotes cybersecurity education, helping her colleagues and customers understand how attacks can jeopardize safety. She provides compliance guidance and best practices to her team and customers on everything from financial fraud, ransomware, and phishing emails.
Outside of work, Subbiah tutors middle school and high school students. She enjoys helping children with STEM education, as well as offering guidance and support to youngsters completing college applications.
Subbiah has worked with Con Edison for 23 years, including 18 as a contractor and the last five as an employee. She immigrated to the United States from South India where she completed her bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University.
