Con Edison Distributes Dry Ice in Manhattan’s Washington Heights
Con Edison is distributing dry ice today in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood for customers who lost electrical service due to the extreme heat.
The dry ice distribution will take place until 9 p.m. on Broadway between W. 173rd and W. 174th streets unless power is restored in the area before that time. Afternoon storms could interrupt dry ice distribution due to safety concerns.
The company has a customer outreach van at the location during those same hours. The van is staffed by customer advocates who can answer customers’ questions. Those advocates include one who is fluent in Spanish.
Instructions for safe handling and disposal of dry ice are printed on the bag containing the ice. Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide and should be used only in well-ventilated areas. A reminder: children and pets should be kept safely away from dry ice.
