Electric Vehicle Charging Superhub Opens In Brooklyn With Support Of Con Edison Incentives
25 Fast Chargers in Bed-Stuy Now Open to the Public 24/7; Clean Energy: All the Power Is from Renewable Sources
North America’s largest universal fast-charging hub for electric vehicles opened today in Brooklyn, developed by electric transportation company Revel with incentives from Con Edison’s PowerReady program.

Revel opened the charging depot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, offering 25 fast-chargers to New York’s expanding pool of EV drivers looking to refill their batteries. Revel has contracted to ensure the stations are powered entirely by renewable energy.
The chargers are compatible with all EV models and will be accessible to the public around the clock. Charging is free through July 6.
“As we work to combat climate change, the future of transportation is electric, but many drivers won’t feel comfortable buying an EV until they see a critical mass of public charging stations around the city,” said Con Edison CEO Tim Cawley. “The Brooklyn superhub makes it convenient for current EV owners to charge up and will encourage more New Yorkers to consider buying an electric car.”
Con Edison’s PowerReady program supporting the development of EV charging infrastructure is the second largest of its kind in the country. Revel’s Brooklyn depot is the first fast-charging project built under PowerReady.
At 75 kilowatts, the chargers can provide EV drivers with 100 miles of range in about 20 minutes. Two of the charging stalls are designed to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Brooklyn depot is near several NYC Housing Authority developments and an NYC Health + Hospitals facility. The increased use of EVs will reduce street-level pollution and noise.
The highest levels of support from PowerReady are available for stations built near disadvantaged communities, in some cases covering 100 percent of the upfront infrastructure costs of preparing a site for chargers.
The more electric vehicles on the road, the more cost-effective it will be to operate and build charging stations, creating a virtuous circle. Publicly accessible stations are especially critical for New Yorkers who live in apartments or otherwise lack access to chargers at home or work.
New York’s energy supply will come increasingly from renewable sources like offshore wind and solar, and through its Clean Energy Commitment Con Edison has committed to supplying 100 percent clean power by 2040.
Con Edison Inc. supports New York’s ambitious climate, clean energy and electric vehicle goals. The company is investing $310 million by 2025 to enable the deployment of more than 21,000 Level 2 EV charging plugs and 525 DC fast chargers.
Last week New York City launched its first curbside EV charging station in the Bronx, part of a project that will see 120 curbside plugs installed by the NYC Department of Transportation and Con Edison across the five boroughs this year.
Separately, Con Edison has announced plans for a clean-energy hub combining EV fast chargers and battery storage in another Brooklyn neighborhood. The Nevins Street project in Gowanus will include 18 EV fast chargers and a 5-megawatt/15 megawatt-hour battery that will help improve reliability of the electric grid.
