CON EDISON ENGINEERS QUIETLY INSPIRE FIRST ROBOTICS’ STUDENTS

By day, two dozen Con Edison engineers safely help to deliver electricity, gas and steam to New Yorkers.

By night, they work alongside high school students from New York City and Westchester County as mentors in the FIRST Robotics competition.

The engineers will be cheering their teams’ robots tomorrow and Sunday at the Javits Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The FIRST Robotics program inspires high school students to think about applying physics and mechanics plus electronics and teamwork to create a working robot, which is tested through a series of exercises on the convention floor.

The Con Edison engineers and volunteers devote thousands of hours to the students’ projects.
